Surgeons Computers and Robots                                                        Mon. 8th Feb at 7.30 pm

In this talk,a brief history will be given on the introduction of computers and robots into surgery and where this is leading. Rudy will then cover a number of personal projects in this field, including image guided surgery, aka surgical navigation, surgical simulation and finally his pet project, the simulation of the human childbirth process with and without interventions such as forceps and vacuum extraction.

Our survival in a hostile world of infectious agents including bacteria, viruses, and parasites depends on two types of major response – the complex immune response engineered by our own body, and the engineering by chemists, biologists and doctors of medicines that act specifically against invading micro-organisms. The talk will deal with both of these aspects and also illustrate drugs against age-related disorders .
